The Problem
Internal data users at Capital One were overwhelmed by inconsistent and unmanageable notifications. The fragmented system caused missed updates, disrupted workflows, and negatively impacted productivity. Without a reliable way to receive and act on relevant data changes, collaboration across teams was often delayed or misaligned.
Process flow defining team responsibilities—clarified who handles what in the notification system
My Role & Approach
As the Senior Design Manager, I championed the prioritization of this project and managed the design and implementation efforts from start to finish. My responsibilities included:
The Solution Implemented
My team designed and launched a centralized notification system that allowed users to personalize their preferences, manage alerts in a streamlined inbox, and easily scan updates through a clear, intuitive visual design. By creating one consistent, user-friendly framework, the system ensured users could focus on what mattered most without being buried in noise.
Notification system wireframe (NDA-protected work recreated for portfolio). Centralized inbox design that reduced workflow disruptions and improved team productivity through personalized alert management.
Communication strategy framework presented at the annual enterprise data conference
User flow mapping how notifications work across different entry points and preference settings
Quantifiable Results & Impact
The new notification system significantly improved productivity and user engagement. By reducing workflow disruptions and ensuring the right information reached the right people at the right time, communication across the platform became more reliable. The solution also improved collaboration between design and tech teams, reinforcing a culture of efficiency and alignment across the organization.
My team presented the communication strategy framework at the company’s annual enterprise data conference to all product leads—the first official communication guidelines for the internal platform. The session had strong attendance and sparked valuable discussions about how to reach users more effectively without overwhelming them.
