The Problem
Within Capital One’s internal data ecosystem, teams worked in silos, which hindered collaboration and slowed productivity. This lack of alignment made it difficult for associates to work seamlessly together. In parallel, users of the platform struggled to find and access the data and tools they needed because the platform lacked a clear Information Architecture and intuitive navigation. Together, these issues created major barriers to both teamwork and efficiency.
My Role & Approach
As the project manager and design lead, I provided strategic UX leadership focused on breaking down silos and improving collaboration across teams. My responsibilities included:
The Solution Implemented
The first step was to create structure and remove friction. I established clear processes, roadmaps, and sprint plans so designers could focus on execution without delays. I kept stakeholders informed at every stage, ensured alignment on shifting priorities, and fostered team camaraderie that encouraged open collaboration.
With these foundations in place, the design team was able to successfully overhaul the information architecture and navigation, providing a more intuitive pathway for users to discover data and tools. Homepage redesigns were planned for a later phase. Together, these improvements enhanced data discovery while also creating a more connected and collaborative workflow for teams across the platform.
Navigation redesign wireframe (NDA-protected work recreated for portfolio). Restructured information architecture to improve data discoverability and reduce cross-team friction.
Sprint planning board I created to keep cross-functional teams aligned and remove roadblocks
Quantifiable Results & Impact
The redesign improved usability, making it significantly easier for teams to locate and access critical assets. More importantly, the collaborative processes I implemented helped break down silos, align stakeholders, and foster a stronger culture of teamwork between data producers and consumers. The result was improved productivity, more efficient workflows, and a platform that better supported both discovery and collaboration.
Connection to Services
This project directly reflects my services in Design Leadership & Strategy, UX Audits & Workflow Optimization, and Enterprise & Platform Design. By improving collaboration processes and enabling effective execution, I created the conditions for impactful design outcomes—an approach I now bring to every client engagement.
